Tom Cruise says he ‘never came close” to playing Iron Man. The Oscar winner has long been subjected to rumors he was in the running to play Tony Stark and his superhero alter ego, but he’s now addressed the speculation and insisted he “can’t imagine” anyone other than Robert Downey Jr in the Marvel Cinematic Universe role.

Marvel did not release an official statement regarding Tom Cruise’s casting in the sequel to Doctor Strange or future franchise installments. However, Avengers: Endgame was the last movie in Robert Downey Jr.’s run as Iron Man, which leaves the role vacant. Antman anybody?
