Breaking News: Colts QB Philip Rivers Is Retiring From NFL

Kind of expected this would happen. Yesterday, Philip Rivers announced that he was retiring after 17 years in the NFL. Fans speculated if the Colts would even bring him back next season since his contract is up and he’ll be turning 40 this year. Hey, the guy played a hell of a career and took the Colts to the playoffs this year. And even though coach Frank Reich commented that he wanted Rivers back, many doubted this was going to happen. Irsay wants another Super Bowl banner hanging from the rafters inside Lucas Oil Stadium and it’s only gonna happen with a younger QB. Period. All quarterbacks (and all NFL players for that matter) know that time is not on their side, especially as they get past their prime. Rivers was a good move for the Colts at the time when they signed him, but the focus now is tomorrow.
