It’s the one universal hand gesture that gets everyone’s attention: giving someone the middle finger, ‘the bird’, ‘the one finger salute’…yep, stops you in your tracks. A high school mascot thought they’d be clever recently, and as you’ll see in the viral video below, they were seen walking down by the other team’s area, flipping off the team, cheerleaders and fans. So, officials suspended the mascot’s team and coaching staff, having them take the bench in last Friday night’s match up. Seems a little harsh, wouldn’t ya’ say? I mean obviously it was teenager in the mascot costume so he/she was being immature and overly competitive. I think back to when I was in high school and our school was very competitive! A lot of trash talk went on during the game, not only from the players but between students from both schools. I get it, school officials expect more from their students, but benching the whole football team AND coaches when they most likely didn’t have anything to do with the mascot’s antics. Good reminder though: be competitive, but be a good sport. Don’t lower the bar~

Literally. During tonight’s Bell Game between Apple Valley and Victorville, the Victorville mascot was captured appearing to give the crowd a one-finger salute from the sidelines. We’re all for school spirit, rivalries and having some fun, but this probably wasn’t the hand signal they covered during mascot orientation. The Bell Game rivalry remains alive and well.
