Ya’ never know when something you said 55 years ago could come back and bite you in the butt! A new documentary called, ‘1971: Billy Joel’s Lost Interview’ will let fans hear a very young ‘Piano Man’ and what his aspirations were back then. In the interview, that only aired once by the way, Joel is asked if he had dreams of playing the famous Madison Square Garden. As you’ll hear below in this teaser, Billy says, “No, I don’t think I’d ever like to work Madison Square Garden. I mean it sounds stupid for me to say that…that place is kind of a rip off”. Flashforward to today, when at last count, Billy Joel performed 150 concerts at Madison Square Garden between 2014 and 2024! Hey, Billy wasn’t exactly wrong, because how many concerts have you been to in HUGE venues where the ‘nose bleeds’ offer no real experience. And I think it’s pretty damn cool that even though a young Billy may have doubted he would play there back in ’71, HE MADE IT! Joel was also known for giving away front row seats to fans who were in the ‘cheap seat’ sections~
