Remember earlier this year, when an archive tape of “American Girl” from Tom Petty was released?
It offered a new view of the song, that featured a proper “cold” ending, rather than the traditional radio “fade-out” we’ve all heard for years. Fans really thought it was cool!
And soon, an extended take of “Breakdown” will be released as part of the ongoing campaign celebrating the 50th Anniversary of Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers!
The process of going through the archives and working on the 50th-anniversary project has been emotional and meaningful for Adria Petty, Tom’s oldest daughter, with efforts to gather memories and recollections from the band members and associates.
So, needless to say, more unreleased material and a larger release will be a part of the celebration of the anniversary!
