As we start another school year, parents have already heard the grumblings of their kids, upset with hours and hours of homework. But one Texas teacher is taking a different approach this year with her class…ditching the extra homework, and planting the seed that they spend more time with their family and get a good night’s rest! How refreshing! Mrs. Brandy Young’s note opens saying, “After much research this summer, I am trying something new. Homework will only consist of work that your student did not finish during the school day. There will be no formally assigned homework this year.” She explains instead how student’s should spend the remainder of their day writing, “Research has been unable to prove that homework improves students performances. Rather, I ask that you spend your evenings doing things that are proven to correlate with student success. Eat dinner as a family, read together, play outside, and get your child to bed early.”
