I’ve been to my share of concerts, where as I’m walking to my car I think, “they really sounded like crap tonight!”. I’m sure you’ve had that same experience. Well a story by Consequence of Sound reports that a new law has been passed in Finland, that allows concertgoers to demand a refund if the show was “substandard”! Apparently this stems from a concert that Chuck Berry did in Finland a couple years back. Berry had supposedly been fighting a head cold, and even apologized to fans. Well the Finnish Consumer Disputes Board ruled that those who attended Chucky’s show were due a 50% refund. Now before anyone gets the bright idea that they can complain about any show in hopes of getting some dough back, it’s not that easy. The board apparently will use a certain criteria to judge whether a refund is warranted. Clearly, if an entertainer has a head cold, their voice is gonna sound different. But think about how many artists are under the influence of booze or drugs when they’re performing, and it actually makes them sound BETTER than when they’re sober! But I think we need that law here in the United States! As much as we pay for a concert ticket these days, the band should deliver an awesome show! But quite a few have such a packed tour calendar that if they’re having a bad day, it follows them onto the stage, and their set sounds awful. I have a lot of admiration for entertainers that put their personal lives on hold the moment the spot light hits them, and they do it because they know their fans are the ONLY reason they’re performing in front of a packed crowd.
