The thing I loved and still love about Barbie is that she’s always been ahead of the times. As a 6-year-old girl playing with my basket of Barbies under our big shade tree out back I knew I could be anything and go anywhere with my Malibu Barbie and the pink corvette! Sometimes as nurse Barbie, I would jump in the big dream camper, and make visits to sick people who were vacationing on tropical islands. It was my idea of a traveling nurse back in the day…LOL And I think that’s the magic of Barbie. She speaks to anyone who has an imagination. Needless to say, I loved the movie, and I loved sharing with my mom even more!
“I think I told them that it’d make a billion dollars, which maybe I was overselling, but we had a movie to make, okay?!”
That was part of Margot Robbie‘s pitch to get the Barbie movie made and it turns out, she wasn’t overselling at all.
In its third week of release, the Greta Gerwig-directed film about the world’s most famous doll became the second film this year to cross the billion-dollar mark globally. The year’s highest grossing film (so far), The Super Mario Bros. Movie, accomplished that feat in April after four weeks.
