Metallica’s launched an inaugural marching band competition! Picture “Enter Sandman” being played on the saxophone or xylophone set to a cool choreographed. flag routine. Yes, count me in!
Marching bands of all levels are invited to compete for over $150,000 in prizes by crafting “their most exciting, unique, and impressive performances of some of Metallica’s most beloved songs.”
Marching bands can enter the competition via www.metallicamarchingband.com, which provides them access to a library of marching band charts by sheet music publisher Hal Leonard. The library includes some of Metallica’s biggest hits.
The competition has five categories, including collegiate division 1, collegiate division 2, and high school, with prize amounts ranging from $10,000 to $75,000. The winner of each category will receive musical instruments and gear for their school’s program, furnished by Metallica
Where was this hip factor when I was in marching band at New Pal High School? As a former bell and xylophone soloist I would have loved to ring out with “The Unforgiven”!
