… Most concert venues bring about memories for bands who have performed there. Such is the case for Aerosmith playing at Donington Park in the U.K. According to Brad Whitford, there’s a certain stench that he associates with Donington. He recently explained in an interview with Ultimate Classic Rock saying,
“Every time we’ve been there, it’s probably been the funkiest, most earthy audience on the tour. Usually the crowd’s been there a few days, and it’s been raining a few days. Last time, it rained all the way through the opening act, but then it stopped raining — we’re lucky that way. But the audience gets a distinct aroma, between the mud and the folks who thought it was too far to go to the porta-cans. It’s great. It smells like being on a farm.”
Nothing like enjoying your favorite band and getting a big whiff of dung…ahhh!
Donington has a special allure for Aerosmith. Whitford explained saying,
“It just has a magic about it. We were excited just to be there. It didn’t dawn on us right away, or we didn’t plan it right away to make a movie out of it but to be able to capture that moment like we did was great, because it does hold a special place for all of us rock ‘n’ rollers.”
Aerosmith performed there during the Download Festival in June of last year, and now you can relive it with their film, Aerosmith Rocks Donington 2014, which will be in movie theaters on Feb. 26.
