… Couple years back, Neil Young showed off some technology that he believes will rival the iPod. It’s called the Pono hi-def music player. Tiny. Yellow. And expensive. $399 for those that have to have the latest gadgets. Pono supposedly plays high quality music files that iPod struggles with. Starting Monday, fans willing to shell out the big bucks can order a Pono, or find it some 80 select stores.
So what’s so cool about this device that Neil Young has been showing off? You can play old MP3s on it, but you can also purchase higher quality files for your Pono. Won’t come cheap though, album prices are nearly twice what they would cost via iTunes. Young’s “After the Gold Rush” available for $21.79. Little pricier for The Who’s deluxe version of ‘Quadrophenia’ selling for $43.29.
Neil Young explains why the technology impressed him,
”I didn’t listen to music for the last 15 years because I hated the way it sounded, and it made me pissed off and I couldn’t enjoy it any more. I could only hear what was missing.”
