When I was 8 years old, our family took our annual summer trip to Kings Island. Looking forward to a fun day on the rides was halted as we entered the park. The sky was green and the winds were picking up really fast. Luckily, safety officials at Kings Island knew what to do. They immediately started calling for everyone to get inside their check-in center, squat down and cover our heads. Thankfully, it wasn’t an actual tornado, but it certainly felt like it. And thankfully, we were prepared.
This morning at 10:15, there will be a statewide tornado drill for Indiana. No severe weather expected today, so when you hear the weather siren, don’t panic. It’s just a test. Good idea to talk with your family about what they should do whether they’re at home, driving, at a store or anywhere when sever weather hits. The National Weather Service created this short 2 minute video that has useful information on what to do during a tornado. Share it with your friends and family.
