The “Next Big Thing”!
That phrase is an idiom that describes a person, product, trend, or technology that’s expected to become extremely popular, extremely successful, or influential in the near future.
A good example of a successful “next big thing” is the Smartphone. It was released in the late 2000s, mobile devices with app stores were billed as pocket computers that replaced cameras, maps, and music players.
Another example, AI, Artificial Intelligence. Yeah, the next big thing!
But what are a few items that were supposed to be the next big thing and totally flopped? Can you think of any? How about 3D movies? Back in the day, everyone thought they would be everywhere, but not so much. Then there’s Crystal Pepsi. Here one day, and gone the next!
