Paul McCartney gave guests a rare music moment during Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s wedding reception in New York.
At the July 3 celebration at Madison Square Garden, McCartney performed the Beatles classic I Want to Hold Your Hand. The song choice stood out because he had not performed it publicly since The Beatles played it in New York on September 20, 1964. That made the wedding performance a nearly 62-year break for one of the band’s most recognizable early hits.
The reception also included a performance from Stevie Nicks, adding another major name to the evening’s music lineup. Swift has long been connected to artists from earlier generations, and McCartney has publicly shown respect for her work over the years.
The moment brought together different eras of pop history in one room. For guests, it was more than a familiar Beatles song. It was a rare live performance of a track tied closely to the start of Beatlemania in the United States.
