It’s the designated universal emergency telephone number in both the United States and Canada.
Dialing it immediately connects you to a local dispatcher who will route your call to the appropriate emergency services, whether that be the police, the fire department, or any type of medical assistance.
The key word when dialing 9-1-1 is “emergency”. Some people forget that.
And dispatchers have shared some of the dumbest reasons people have called 9-1-1.
You know like:
A complaint about Wendy’s not selling a Whopper.
One guy called during a power outage to ask the score of the USA vs Canada gold medal Olympic game.
And of course that person who called about being bored and wanted something to do.
