
When my son was one or two, I can recall a couple of bad temper tantrums in the store when he didn’t get the stuffed animal he wanted. No amount of reasoning worked. Being stern and simply telling him, ‘No!’ didn’t work. But parents lately have been posting videos like the one below on social media that show how just saying the name ‘Jessica’ will calm down the situation with their toddler! So why does it work? Our brains, even as toddlers, are wired to assess new situations and potential risks. So when a child is crying and they hear, “JESSICA”, they’re thrown off and stop crying. Back in my day, these parenting hacks didn’t exist. It was the belt that did the job~
