Yikes! A scary moment happened recently at a Mets-Twins game!
First base umpire Hunter Wendelstedt had to leave the game after taking a rocket of a foul ball off the side of his head in the top of the seventh inning. (Guesses were the ball was traveling 90 mph!)
Wendelstedt was “in good spirits” and undergoing additional testing at a local hospital according to an MLB spokesman.
And the incident raises the question why umpires don’t wear helmets but the base coaches do?
