Comedian Dave Chappelle was attacked on stage during a comedy show at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles last night. According to Yahoo Entertainment, the attacker jumped on stage and tackled Chappelle, then tried to flee but was apprehended by Chappelle’s security team. The controversial comedian was not harmed.
One reports claims that the attacker had a gun and a knife on him. It appears he didn’t use either weapon but this could have ended much, much worse! Chappelle has angered many in the transgender community over past comments during his comedy routines, so many are wondering if this was some sort of ‘pay back’. Absolutely the wrong tactic if that’s true. We can disagree with someone’s point of view without resorting to violence. But when I saw the video/story this morning, I wasn’t surprised. In the back of my mind I felt like the potential for this kind of attack was always coming. And not just for Chappelle. How many comedians have crossed the line and angered fans and certain groups. That’s exactly why Chappelle and most high profile comedians have a team of security standing by. More details on this story are sure to come out today and within the coming days. But you better believe security is gonna be ramped up at a lot of venues~
