Hey hey, they’re the Monkees. But not for much longer as far as touring goes.
With their other two partners gone — Davy Jones in 2012 and Peter Tork in 2019 — Micky Dolenz and Michael Nesmith decided to close the cage with the Monkees Farewell Tour. It kicked off in September and they played their last show Nov. 14th in L.A.. It’s where group was formed during 1966 for an NBC TV show. That led to a parallel career as a band in its own right, with 13 albums (five of them platinum or better) and eight Top 20 singles such as “Last Train to Clarksville,” “I’m a Believer” and “Daydream Believer.”
Fans in attendance seemed enraptured by the significance of the evening, singing along with every word. The final song of the night was the classic tune “I’m a Believer.” The song was written by Neil Diamond and recorded by the Monkees in 1966 with the lead vocals by Micky Dolenz.
