Can you picture Tony Soprano starring in ‘The Office’?! As reported by JustJared, the late actor’s fellow co-stars, Michael Imperioli and Steve Schirripa, shared that James had an opportunity to replace Steve Carell when he left NBC’s famous sitcom. But HBO wasn’t having it and offered The Sopranos star a HUGE incentive to turn down the role. I know actors don’t want to be typecast, but Gandolfini will always be Tony Soprano. He more than had the talent to play any role, be it a wise guy or a funny guy, but HBO made the right call in keeping their lead character ‘pure’ and protected. Here’s the story from Just Jared, and below you can more of the conversation between Michael, Steve and their guest Ricky Gervais on the podcast.
