One of the greatest legends at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway is retiring at the end of this month, but he’s never been in a single race. Well Donald Davidson may have never raced at IMS, but he can certainly tell you every little detail of each race that has taken place there. The famous historian has decided to head into Winner’s Circle at the end of the month and bring his incredible career to a close.
A couple of years ago, I was at the track for an event, and several of the drivers were hanging out by themselves. It’s a clique and a brotherhood that not many are allowed into. But during the event, in walks Donald Davidson and the drivers stopped talking and began shaking his hand and took him into their group. Even though he’s never raced, Donald is one of them. He’s racing royalty, and not just here in Indianapolis. Davidson has made a name for himself around the world when it comes to racing, IMS and especially the Indy 500.
We wish Mr. Davidson much happiness in his retirement. Thanks Donald for sharing your love and knowledge of the Indy 500 and IMS with us over the years.
