This week, my wife suggested we start a new family tradition for Christmas. Building a gingerbread house. Hey, it’s one giant cookie covered in icing and candy, what’s not to like?! Our 4 year old was also on board as he was in charge of spreading the icing, and of course eating it too. While it was fun, it was pretty messy. The candies also wouldn’t stay stuck on the house. And the thing’s really not edible, it’s pretty crunchy! Now, I’m gonna go all sentimental and ‘ABC After School Special’ here, but it actually taught me about life, at least here at the Browning’s. Our life is messy at times. And much like the gingerbread house, ours is in need of occasional repair. Ironically, our porch roof started falling off this week. And yes, we have our ‘sweet’ moments when Reed gives us an unexpected hug or wants to cuddle up in our laps. Then there are days, and even weeks, when life is ‘crunchy’ and even hard to stomach, much like the gingerbread house. But as sweet or ugly as it gets, it’s still our home. I’m reminded of how blessed I am to live in our crazy gingerbread house. It’s filled with love, laughter, tears, support, forgiveness and encouragement.
