You\’ve probably sang along with The Beatles to \’Penny Lane\’ many, many times and not realized the full story behind the song. The actual Penny Lane is a famous street that exists in Liverpool, England, made famous by the Beatles tune. But some historians are questioning whether it was named after an 18th century slave trader, named James Penny. Now others say it\’s not conclusive and are wanting to study it further before deciding whether to change the street\’s name. What\’s truly sad is that several street signs marking Penny Lane have been vandalized recently over racial injustice. So what if it turns out that Penny Lane WASN\’T named after James Penny? Perhaps the vandals can wait till the verdict is in with actual proof of the origin of the street name. And at that point, peacefully petition the community to change the name of the street. Slavery in the U.S. and other countries is absolutely a dark period in our history that has brought us (other countries) great shame. Deplorable. But I gotta believe the late civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. would have a different approach than what some are doing these days with vandalism and looting to protest racial injustice. He stood for justice, equality for all and he did it in a peaceful manner
