When you think of a coffee shop, you probably think of people working on their laptops. Whether it’s business people working on spreadsheets, college kids getting a report done or even someone applying for a job. Regardless, laptops are kind of synonymous with cafes.
But a local coffee shop is making some waves (good and bad) by implementing a no laptop policy. Provider put out a post over the weekend on Instagram saying that the policy is to help people find a spot to sit during peak hours. The no laptop portion will occur on the weekends, and during the week a $5 per hour minimum tab is required.
Now, it’s not going to be heavily enforced, but it rather hopes to ensure that people aren’t coming in, buying a coffee and staying for seven hours. The Indy Star quotes co-owner Neal Warner as saying, “We need to turn tables efficiently, and not be pushy in any way, but we would like to survive and stay in business. We’re hoping this policy will help with that.”
