Kokomo residents had just cleaned up after a tornado touched down doing damage a couple of years ago, only to relive that horror once again yesterday. An EF3 tornado was confirmed by the National Weather Service, damaging businesses, homes and apartment communities. Thankfully no was seriously injured. I’m from Kokomo and still have quite a few family members and friends that live there. As I heard about the tornado warnings for Howard County, I began to text several family members to make sure they were safe and were aware of the approaching danger. My mother and stepfather had taken shelter in their bathroom with reports of a tornado nearby. Thankfully, they weren’t hurt and their home wasn’t damaged. A few friends told me that their vehicles or property did experience damage, but all of that can be repaired or replaced. The loss of life cannot. If you’d like to help our fellow Hoosiers, consider making a donation to the Salvation Army by texting the word HOOSIER to the number 41444.
