My son Reed will turn 4 months old in a couple of weeks, and as he gets older, I realize I no longer need television to entertain me. It’s really amazing to watch babies discover this new world around them! In the photo above, Reed had just laid down on a play mat for the first time at grandma’s house, and this was his reaction after getting a close up glimpse of himself in the mirror! “WHO’S THAT?!!” He of course broke out into laughter, but I wonder if he understood it was himself that he saw, or if just the image of another baby made him giggle.
It has been an incredible experience so far, watching Reed develop, identifying with me and my wife Jenni. He’s starting to recognize our voices and faces. He imitates sounds we make, and some of his facial expressions are priceless! He’s a ham for sure. Over the weekend, we were in Kroger when an elderly woman noticed Reed in our cart and came up to see him. She smiled and said, “What a sweet well behaved baby!”. I thanked her and replied, “Well we’re on borrowed time because he’ll need to eat any minute now”. The woman then said, “I’m on borrowed time too…I turn 92 tomorrow”. Interesting perspective from two different people on that phrase.
