Last year 104-5 WJJK took part in a radio-thon with our sister stations, 95-5 WFMS and 93.9 The Beat to benefit Riley Hospital for Children here in Indianapolis. A facility that is world renowned for their exceptional care. They care for children from all 92 counties here in Indiana. You probably know someone, a family member, friend, neighbor, who has benefited from the amazing doctors, nurses and staff at Riley. My cousin’s son was treated at Riley for a very serious condition. She commented how they were so compassionate and attentive to their patients, and how the hospital didn’t feel like your typical hospital. I can agree with that after meeting some of their staff at last year’s radio-thon. The place is life changing…literally.
In the photo above, Nikki and I had the chance to meet and interview some of the patients at Riley Hospital last year. Something that struck me in talking with these kids was their immense bravery. Each was battling their own health crisis, ranging from cancer to diabetes to optical tumors to heart murmurs to conditions I’ve never even heard of and could barely pronounce. But they’re fighters, and with help from Riley, they can win.
We’ll be hosting another radio-thon this Friday and Saturday, raising funds for Riley Hospital for Children. They are a non-for profit hospital and rely on the generosity of the public. You and I can help continue to fund the superior care they provide to any child, regardless of their financial ability to pay. I hope you’ll join us later this week.
