Not sure why the latest trend on YouTube and social media is to sneak up behind your cat and scare it with a cucumber. Really? Some people have waaaaaay too much time on their hands! Now don’t get me wrong, I have an unusual sense of humor, but this seems beyond stupid. If you haven’t seen one of the thousands of these videos (count yourself lucky), here’s what happens: some people put food in the cat’s bowl, and then as the feline is eating, they sneak up behind them and put a cucumber near them. When the cat is finished eating, they see the vegetable and are spooked. Maybe it looks like a snake to them? Well according to National Geographic experts, doing such pranks can actually be harmful to your cat’s mental stability. Cats associate eating their food with safety explains one expert, saying that startling them can cause them to panic when they eat. I’m assuming you love your cat, so why would you want to torture them? And if they stop eating or develop some nervous habit like pulling out their fur, you might end up in the vet’s office with a nice bill. So keep your cucumber to yourself (that’s what she said)~
