It may not be one of Steven Spielberg’s home runs, but The Goonies has developed a cult following over the last three decades. This year is the 30th anniversary of the 80’s mystery/action film. Supposedly, the house in the film was in foreclosure for years, but about 10 years ago, a woman purchased it. Realizing it was a tourist mecca, with fans from the iconic movie coming from all over the world to see it, she would give tours of the home. She estimates that over 1,000 fans dropped by…EVERYDAY! But recently she’s decided she’d prefer her privacy and doesn’t want the attention anymore. I don’t understand because when you purchase a home with such a distinct Hollywood tie-in, you know you’re going to get tourists and media attention. She should have turned it into a Goonies museum, profiting every which way possible! I would have even considered turning it into The Goonies Bed and Breakfast! Tourists would have dropped big money to stay in the attic where the boys in the film discovered the treasure map! But, that’s me and my wild imagination (not sure my wife would go along with the plan either…until she saw the FAT CASH rolling in!!)
