…Cheap Trick may not be one of the biggest names in Rock, but they’re like any other band, having their inner problems. Appears back in 2013, drummer Bun E Carlos sued his bandmates, supposedly claiming he had been kicked out of Cheap Trick. He also went on to state that his share of profits had been kept from him, pointing the finger at the other guys in the band. One might argue that Carlos did stop performing with Cheap Trick back in 2010, but Carlos makes a good point stating,
[he was still] “…a full member of Cheap Trick in all respects.” And when the band recorded a song without Carlos back in 2012, he claims he was shocked. Seems like a real disconnect here. On one hand, he wasn’t playing concerts with Cheap Trick for a few years, so the guys carry on without him. But perhaps phone calls and emails went unanswered, leading the band to find a fill in drummer. Well last fall, a judge disagreed with the band’s request to dismiss the lawsuit by Carlos. Since then, it would appear they guys have patched things up. Looks like Carlos still isn’t touring or recording, but when it comes to being in on decision making, he still gets a vote. No word from Carlos, but I would imagine as long as the checks keep rolling in, he’ll sit quietly on the sidelines of rock-n-roll and enjoy his time off…or is this retirement?
