Last week in my normal shift from 10am-3pm….next week I’ll be filling in for Greg….so, every day with “BeLIEve It or Not” this week, I’m gonna feature a “holiday edition” with 3 random facts about Christmas, the holiday season, Santa Claus, and more. Here’s the weekly rundown:
Monday
1. An average of 200 Christmas trees catch fire every year.
2. The average household will send out 28 Christmas cards.
3. Christmas trees are edible. Many parts of pines, spruces, and firs can be eaten. The needles are a good source of Vitamin C and pine cones are also a good source of nutrition. Yum!
Tuesday
1. An average of 5,800 people end up in the emergency room after suffering injuries from holiday decorating.
2. According to data analyzed from Facebook posts, two weeks before Christmas is one of the most popular times for couples to break up.
3. The single “White Christmas” by Irving Berlin is the best selling single of all time, with over 100 million sales worldwide.
Wednesday
1. If you received all the gifts from the song “The 12 Days of Christmas”, you would have 364 presents.
2. There are 3 towns in the United States named Santa Claus. One in Utah, one in Georgia, and one in Indiana.
3. Paul McCartney earns about $400,000.00 a year off his Christmas song, “Wonderful Christmastime”….which many believe to be the worst song he ever recorded.
Thursday
1. Christmas shopping accounts for 20% of all retail sales in the United States each year.
2. According to Time magazine, “Silent Night” is the Christmas song that’s been recorded the most. “Joy to the World” is second, and “O Holy Night” is third.
3. Given the different time zones, Santa has 31 hours to deliver gifts. But, his reindeer really have to fly fast, because mathmatically he has to visit 823 homes per second.
Friday
1. During the Christmas buying season, Visa cards alone are used an average of 5,340 times every minute in the United States.
2. 31% of all diamonds purchased annually are purchased at Christmas time.
3. Christmas is the day when Americans consume the most food. Followed by Thanksgiving and the Super Bowl.
