Russell Crowe came close to playing Aragorn in the Lord of the Rings trilogy — but he was put off by one phone call with director Peter Jackson.
In a recent interview to promote his new “Roger Ailes” mini series the Oscar winner was asked about the rumor of him being offered “Lord Of The Rings”. Crowe explained that he said no to the blockbuster because he could tell on the phone that director Peter Jackson was forced into talking with him because he was the “It” actor at the time.
Crowe said ” i just knew – that my instinct was – that JACKSON had somebody else in mind, which turned out to be Viggo Mortenson and he should be allowed to hire the actor who he wants.” And that’s how and why he turned down a potential 100 million dollar pay day. Crowe. It’s potential because he would have received 10 percent of the back end grosses
of the trilogy.
